Quality Control is Key, Has Your Toner Been Tested?

Most compatible and remanufactured ink and toner products undergo rigorous quality control tests before being shipped such as print testing for every cartridge. Compatible products are manufactured at primary factories under ISO 9001, 9002, 14001 and SMTC standards for quality and environmental processes. Remanufactured products contain 80% new products including high-quality OPC drums, PCR rollers, and wiper blades. The results are high quality cartridges that produce longer page yields, denser print coverage and crisper images and graphics with defect rates of less than 2%.

Most compatible and remanufactured ink and toner products have been rigorously tested by independent quality testing labs including the Image Products Laboratory at the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T).

So be sure any compatible or remanufactured ink or toner cartridges you buy have gone through the proper tests guaranteeing you a good experience. Too many companies buy the cheapest toner they can find, only to find out it was cheap for a reason.

Compatible Facts

Source: Green Image Solutions
1. Compatible ink and toner cartridges are essentially replacement cartridges for your printer that are not from the original manufacturer (OEM), but are remanufactured or created by a third party manufacturer.

2.
Depending on where you purchase your compatible ink and toner cartridges, you may be getting a new or remanufactured versions (see below for the differences between compatible and remanufactured cartridges).

3.
In some cases, cartridges that your printer uses carry a chip. If that's the case, check to make sure that the compatible cartridges you're choosing have the same chip so you won't have to reset your machine and deal with the hassle of error messages.

4.
To ensure product quality, some compatible cartridges come with a warranty that matches that of the original manufacturer. Be sure to purchase from a vendor who carries a warranty comparable to the OEM and who's products are remanufactured based on ISO 9002 and SMTC standards.

5.
Using a compatible cartridges won't void the warranty of your printer in many cases (see Magnusson-Moss act in Link Section). However, it's best to check with your manual or the manufacturer to verify this if you have concerns.

Recycle Ink and Toner Cartridges

Keep hazardous materials such as used imaging supplies and cell phones out of our nation's landfills to preserve our natural resources.

One reason to recycle is the amount of oil it takes to make a new toner cartridge, the information below is from stopwaste.org...

"Using remanufactured toner cartridges also saves energy. Approximately 3 quarts of oil are burned in the production of a single new toner cartridge. A used toner cartridge can be remanufactured up to four times, depending on its type and condition, thus potentially saving up to 12 quarts of fuel."

Also...

"The typical used toner cartridge weighs about 3 pounds and is composed of 40% plastic, 40% metal, and smaller percentages of rubber, paper, foam, and toner. The plastic is made of engineering-grade polymers and takes at least 1,000 years to decompose. However, approximately 97% of these combined components can be recycled and reused."
